About Bright Path

A writing school built around science fiction as a serious literary discipline — not a genre to be embarrassed about, but a craft worth studying with rigour and curiosity.

Our story

Where the programme came from

Bright Path started in 2025 with a straightforward observation: most writing courses treat science fiction as a stepping stone toward "serious" literary work. The instructors here disagree. Speculative fiction demands the same structural precision as any other form — world-building, internal consistency, character motivation — with the added challenge of making invented systems feel inevitable.

The programme grew out of frustration with courses that either leaned too heavily on genre tropes or ignored genre conventions entirely. Both approaches leave writers underprepared. What students need is a working understanding of why certain narrative choices hold together and why others collapse — regardless of whether the setting involves faster-than-light travel or office politics.

Delivery is fully remote, which means the cohort is genuinely international. Participants have joined from over 30 countries, and that range of cultural reference points consistently produces more interesting fiction than any single regional perspective could.

Aldric Fenmore Lead Instructor

Aldric spent twelve years writing speculative fiction before moving into instruction. His published work spans hard science fiction and secondary-world fantasy, which gives him a practical understanding of where the two traditions diverge technically and where they share the same underlying problems.

His approach in the classroom is diagnostic rather than prescriptive. He tends to ask why a scene isn't working before suggesting how to fix it — the distinction matters, because the same symptom can have several causes. Writers who understand the cause fix it once; writers who apply a formula fix it repeatedly.

He reads widely outside the genre, which he considers non-negotiable for anyone writing within it. Science fiction that only references other science fiction tends to recycle rather than invent.

How we work

Three things that shape every module

Structural honesty

Every module identifies what a technique actually does, not what it's supposed to do in theory. If a three-act structure doesn't serve a particular story, that's discussed — not papered over with enthusiasm.

Specific feedback

Feedback on submitted work references the actual sentences, not the general impression. Vague praise and vague criticism are equally useless to a writer trying to improve a specific draft.

Realistic timelines

Writing a competent short story takes months of deliberate practice. Writing a novel takes longer. The programme doesn't promise otherwise — it's designed around what the work actually requires.

Science fiction writing course overview

"The goal isn't to produce writers who sound like they've read a lot of science fiction. It's to produce writers who've thought carefully about how stories work — and then happen to set them in the future."
